What we found
- Of 49 local web company sites in the region, none had Tamil in its page text.
- Only 3 of 49 named a real person on the page we read.
- Only 18 of 49 mentioned a price or package.
- In the top 100 results for 10 Mayiladuthurai searches, 10 were firms from the town and 61 were outside companies or unclassified sites.
Before starting Lakecipher in Mayiladuthurai, we wanted to know what a business owner here actually sees when looking for a web company. So on 4 November 2026 we read the sites and the search results ourselves. We aren't naming any firm here, because the aim is to help buyers, not to rank competitors. We are also one of the companies this affects, so read it with that in mind.
What we checked
We read 75 web company sites that target Mayiladuthurai and towns up to about 130 km away: 49 local firms, and 26 outside companies with pages for these towns. We read one page per site, usually the home page, as raw HTML, the way most AI crawlers see it. We also ran 39 searches on DuckDuckGo and 24 on Bing.

The two groups are roughly equal on the basics, so outside companies don't win on quality. What they have is volume. Several run hundreds or thousands of pages, one for each town. That has a real risk attached: Google's spam policy names pages "targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page" as doorway pages.
Who appears in the search results
We took the top 10 DuckDuckGo results for 10 searches about Mayiladuthurai, such as "web design company in Mayiladuthurai". That's 100 results in all.

A manual Google check by our founder showed a similar pattern. For "web design company in Mayiladuthurai", the top three were one firm from the town, one describing itself as a Chennai company, and one describing itself as a Tamil Nadu-wide company. That's a single check, so treat it as a hint.
What this means if you're buying
- Check the address. A page with your town's name doesn't mean that the company is here. Look for a street and PIN code.
- Ask for a price. Most sites won't show one. A firm's answer tells you a lot.
- Ask who you'll work with. Very few sites name a person. You should know who is responsible for your work.
- Be careful with review numbers. Some sites publish ratings in their own code that we couldn't verify anywhere else. Check Google or Justdial directly.
- Don't treat directory counts as real. One directory page claimed over 100 providers for the town. Of the 20 listings we read, 1 had a Mayiladuthurai address.
What this study can't tell you
- Google wasn't tested properly. Our counts come from DuckDuckGo and Bing. Google could differ, and search location affects results.
- One page per site. "No named person" means none on the page we read. An About page may well name someone.
- Some sites can't be read this way. A few sites show almost nothing without running JavaScript, so we can't say what they contain.
- Crude text matching. "Price text" means any rupee or package mention, so treat it as a signal only.
- Quality isn't measured. We counted what's there, not how good it is. Traffic, sales and client results aren't covered.
- A snapshot. Sites change. This is one day in November 2026.
Common questions
How many IT companies are there in Mayiladuthurai?
We found about 10 with a real presence within about 30 km, nearly all in town or in Kuthalam and Sirkazhi, plus a few listings with no website we could read. Directories claim far more, but on one directory page claiming over 100, only 1 of the 20 listings we read had a Mayiladuthurai address.
Do local web companies in Mayiladuthurai do SEO?
Some do, and the better ones do it well. But in our check, outside companies took most of the search results for Mayiladuthurai searches, not local firms.
How can I tell if a web company is really local?
Look for a street address and PIN code on their site, then check their own Contact page. Many companies have a page with your town's name on it, but their address is in another city.
